A federal appeals court ruled that in-home possession of AI-generated child sexual abuse material is protected under a 2002 Supreme Court decision that struck down a ban on computer-generated child pornography. The court noted that the earlier ruling created ambiguity about how current law applies to AI-generated content. The decision does not address whether the creation or distribution of such material remains illegal.
