LEE GREENWOOD: Trump can help finish the fight Frank Sinatra started
Friday, July 3, 2026
Lee Greenwood, who recorded "God Bless the U.S.A.," stated that AM/FM radio stations broadcast his recordings without paying him, citing a provision in federal law that exempts radio stations from paying performers royalties on pre-1972 sound recordings. Greenwood said Frank Sinatra faced the same issue during his career. The 1998 Digital Millennium Copyright Act created different royalty requirements for digital platforms compared to terrestrial radio. Greenwood did not specify which actions he believes Trump could take to change the law.
