Iceland has begun considering membership in the European Union, joining several other nations in the candidate queue for membership. The shift reflects a change from earlier concerns about declining EU membership interest. Current candidate countries seeking EU membership include Serbia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Turkey, Ukraine, and Moldova, according to the European Commission.
