Hochul boasts 'I just banned it' as New York outlaws local police partnerships with ICE
Friday, August 28, 2026
New York Governor Kathy Hochul signed legislation banning 287(g) agreements, which allow local police departments to partner with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The Department of Homeland Security stated that the restriction would increase federal immigration enforcement presence in New York communities. The law took effect following Hochul's signature.
