Meta makes AI glasses slightly less creepy with limit on nonconsensual recording

Friday, August 28, 2026

Meta released a software update for its Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses that disables recording when the device's light indicator is covered. The company said the change was designed to prevent users from recording others without their knowledge. Previously, the glasses could continue recording video even when the LED safety light was obscured. The update takes effect automatically for existing devices.
