Qatar Extends LNG Force Majeure as Hormuz Traffic Remains Halted
Friday, August 28, 2026
Qatar extended its force majeure declaration on liquefied natural gas exports by one month, citing ongoing uncertainty about shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. The force majeure, which exempts suppliers from contractual obligations during circumstances beyond their control, affects European and Asian buyers. The Strait of Hormuz, through which a significant portion of global oil and natural gas shipments transit, remained closed to traffic. Qatar did not announce a new target date for lifting the force majeure.
