US removes radioactive cancer-treatment material from Central American country over 'dirty bomb' risk

The U.S. Department of Energy removed a cobalt-60 source from a disused cancer treatment device in Guatemala. Cobalt-60 is a radioactive material used in medical radiation therapy. The removal was conducted due to concerns the material could be stolen and repurposed as a radiological dispersal device.
