Meta settles states' child-safety claims for $18B; Florida rejects deal as "peanuts"

Meta reached a settlement with 41 U.S. states and the District of Columbia, agreeing to pay $18 billion and implement new child safety features including daily usage limits for users under 18. The settlement resolves claims that Meta's platforms Instagram and Facebook harmed children's mental health and enabled child exploitation. Florida's attorney general stated the state would not join the settlement. Meta did not admit wrongdoing as part of the agreement.
