Ring says its new encryption limits what it can give police

Wednesday, August 26, 2026

Ring, an Amazon-owned company, announced an encryption method called TAKE, or Throw Away the Key Encryption, that restricts Amazon's cloud access to user videos while maintaining features like smart alerts. The company stated that TAKE limits when and why its servers can access videos, without using traditional end-to-end encryption. Ring did not specify what information, if any, would remain accessible to law enforcement or under what legal circumstances.
