X sends cease-and-desist to open-source project Nitter over alleged scraping
Tuesday, August 25, 2026
X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, sent cease-and-desist letters to Nitter, an open-source project that creates privacy-focused interfaces for accessing X, demanding the removal of its instances and code repository. Nitter allows users to view X content without directly using X's platform or creating an account. X alleged that Nitter engages in scraping of its data. The cease-and-desist specified that Nitter instances and repositories must be taken down according to X's demands.
