Cash is no longer king in home sales

Cash buyers accounted for a smaller percentage of home sales in 2025 compared to prior years, according to real estate data. The shift occurred as housing inventory increased and median home prices declined from their 2022 peak. Cash purchases remain a segment of the market but represent a lower proportion of total residential transactions than in recent years.
