Dem who urged scandal-plagued candidate to quit now mourns his downfall in pivotal Maine race

Troy Jackson, a Maine state senator and Democrat, called for Graham Platner to withdraw from the 2026 U.S. Senate race against Republican Susan Collins after Platner faced undisclosed scandals. Jackson subsequently ran for the seat himself. Jackson stated he wished the circumstances had not occurred but felt obligated to run as the progressive candidate in the race.
