'Forget about going back': 9 years on, Rohingya crisis enters dangerous phase

Tuesday, August 25, 2026

Over nine years after the initial displacement, approximately 900,000 Rohingya remain in camps in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh, according to UN figures. The UN Refugee Agency reported in 2025 that funding for humanitarian assistance declined by approximately 40 percent compared to the previous year. A generation of Rohingya children born in the camps have completed primary school with limited access to secondary education and employment opportunities in Bangladesh.
