Big Food Is Winning the War for America’s Diet

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration did not release a final definition of ultraprocessed foods as expected. The FDA had been working on the definition following recommendations from the 2020 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee, which examined the health effects of food processing levels. As of 2026, no federal standard has been officially published.
