Inaudible sounds used to fingerprint browsers catch AliExpress red-handed

AliExpress deployed ultrasonic tracking technology that generates inaudible sounds to identify and fingerprint web browsers, according to security researchers who analyzed the e-commerce platform's code. The technique, known as ultrasonic beaconing, has been documented in academic research since the early 2010s and was previously used by other companies for cross-device tracking. Security firm Distil Networks identified the implementation on AliExpress in 2026 and published findings showing the company embedded the tracking mechanism in its website.
