Supreme Court Allows Reporter to Be Fined for Failing to Disclose Source
Thursday, July 2, 2026
Catherine Herridge, a former Fox News reporter, was held in civil contempt by a lower court after she refused to reveal her sources for articles about a scientist investigated by the F.B.I. The Supreme Court declined to block the contempt finding, allowing the lower court's decision to stand. Herridge had argued that disclosing her sources would violate journalist-source confidentiality protections.
