Nashville hospital medication error leaves at least 1 patient paralyzed after routine surgery, 3 others hurt

Four patients received potassium phosphate injected into their spines instead of an anesthetic during joint replacement surgeries at Ascension Saint Thomas Hospital in Nashville. One patient became paralyzed following the error. Three other patients were injured. The hospital reported the medication error to state health authorities.
