Jamieson Greer, U.S. trade representative, stated that Canada rejected a trade agreement, and 50 percent tariffs on $20 billion in Canadian imports took effect. Greer said Canada had walked away from "the best deal." No new trade talks between the two countries were scheduled at the time the tariffs were implemented.
