California sociology professor cited 'irony' in removing ACT/SAT not fixing racial disparities as intended
Saturday, August 22, 2026
UC sociology professor Gabriel Rossman reported that the University of California system's test-blind admissions policy, implemented to reduce racial disparities, did not eliminate those disparities and coincided with stalled enrollment gains for Latino students. Rossman cited what he described as an irony in the policy's outcomes relative to its stated goals. The UC system adopted test-blind admissions in 2021, removing standardized test score requirements from the application process.
