Travel app Hopper to pay $35M in FTC settlement over ‘unfairly’ charging hidden fees

Thursday, July 2, 2026

Hopper will pay 35 million dollars to settle Federal Trade Commission allegations that it used deceptive design patterns to conceal fees and misrepresented the cost and benefits of services to travelers. The FTC charged that Hopper's interface design made it difficult for users to understand total pricing before purchase. Hopper did not admit wrongdoing as part of the settlement. The company is also required to clearly disclose all fees and obtain explicit user consent before charging for optional services going forward.
