Government will cut water to Ariz., Calif., Nevada as Colorado River runs low
Friday, August 21, 2026
The federal government announced reductions in water allocations from the Colorado River to Arizona, California, and Nevada effective in 2027. The three states will receive less water as the river's flows continue to decline. The allocation cuts follow a series of agreements between the federal government and the states on managing the river's diminishing supply.
