Longest-serving US prisoner dies at 101 after escaping death penalty 8 times

Herman Wallace, incarcerated for 68 years in connection with the 1951 death of a night watchman at a Connecticut yacht club, died at age 101. Wallace had been convicted of the killing and faced capital punishment proceedings on eight separate occasions before the charges were reduced or dismissed. He was released from prison in 2013 after his conviction was vacated and died shortly after his release.
