Monte Paschi Offers to Buy BPM, Banca Generali for €34 Billion

Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena SpA announced offers to acquire Banca Popolare di Milano and Banca Generali for a combined €34 billion. The acquisitions, if completed, would make Monte Paschi larger and potentially less attractive as a takeover target for Intesa Sanpaolo SpA, which has been seeking to acquire Monte Paschi. Monte Paschi's board approved the bids in December 2024.
