Africa CDC confirms Marburg case in Uganda as Ebola outbreak rages

Thursday, July 2, 2026

The Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed a case of Marburg virus in Uganda. Uganda's Ministry of Health reported that the patient was identified in the Kasese district. Health officials said early reports suggested a possible additional case, though they assessed transmission as localized at the time of the announcement. The confirmation came as separate Ebola cases were being reported in the region.
