As much of the Eastern U.S. experiences high daytime temperatures, nighttime temperatures are also remaining elevated. High nighttime temperatures prevent the human body from cooling during sleep. Overnight lows have not dropped to typical seasonal levels in affected areas. Scientists measure this through minimum daily temperature records, which have increased in recent decades according to temperature databases maintained by the National Centers for Environmental Information.
