Russian Strikes Leave Ukraine Farmers With Piles of Unsold Grain
Thursday, August 20, 2026
Ravil Dzhamally fled his farm in Ukraine's Kherson region after Russian troops overran it in 2022. After Russian forces withdrew from the region, he returned to clear mines and plant wheat, barley, and sunflowers. Recent Russian strikes have disrupted grain storage and transportation infrastructure in the region, leaving farmers with accumulated unsold grain. The extent of current damage to storage facilities and export routes has limited Ukrainian grain sales.
