NASA calls off mission to rescue Swift gamma-ray observatory

NASA canceled a planned servicing mission to the Swift gamma-ray observatory. The agency had been considering a robotic repair effort to extend the spacecraft's operational life. Swift is expected to reenter Earth's atmosphere in 2026 without intervention.
