AOC sides with Bernie-backed progressive in Senate primary clash with Schumer establishment

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez endorsed Abdul El-Sayed in the Michigan Democratic Senate primary. El-Sayed was backed by Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and the Democratic establishment supported Haley Stevens in the same race. The primary election took place on August 6, 2024.
