Two Chinese Supertankers U-Turn in Hormuz as Risks Remain High

Two Chinese-linked supertankers reversed course in the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday. The vessels had been heading toward the waterway, one of the world's busiest shipping routes through which roughly one-third of globally traded oil passes. Trump administration officials stated in January 2026 that the U.S. would maintain pressure on Iran-linked shipping activity in the region.
