China Touts Success of Arctic ‘Ice Silk Road’ to Bypass Strait of Hormuz

China's state-run Global Times reported on Tuesday that the Arctic shipping route, which China calls the "Ice Silk Road," is experiencing increased use. The Global Times criticized Western media coverage of the route, stating that concerns about environmental impact and supply chain vulnerabilities reflected bias. The Arctic passage is shorter than traditional routes through the Strait of Hormuz for shipping between Asia and Europe.
