Trump Administration Moves to Allow Logging in Pristine National Forests
Tuesday, August 18, 2026
The Trump administration announced plans to repeal the roadless rule, a 2001 regulation that restricted road construction and logging on approximately 45 million acres of national forest land. The rule, established under President Bill Clinton, designated certain forest areas off-limits to new road development. Repealing it would allow logging companies to petition for road access in previously restricted forest areas.
