Long-Term Debt Costs Soar to Highest in Decades as Bonds Slump

The yield on long-term US Treasury bonds has risen to levels not seen in decades. Ira Jersey, Bloomberg Intelligence chief US interest rate strategist, attributed the increase partly to competition from foreign government bonds, including those from Japan. Davide Barbuscia, also of Bloomberg, noted that corporate bond issuance has reached record levels in 2026, adding competitive pressure on Treasury demand.
