Chicago found millions for migrants. Why are its own children being left behind?
Tuesday, August 18, 2026
Chicago allocated approximately $639.6 million for migrant services between 2022 and 2024, according to city budget documents. During the same period, Dulles Elementary School reported a 3.9% math proficiency rate among its students. The city's public school system has faced budget constraints and declining enrollment in recent years. Chicago Public Schools did not immediately respond to a request for comment on resource allocation between school funding and migrant services.
