US Hiring Slows Sharply, Curbing Recent Job-Market Momentum

The U.S. added 206,000 jobs in June, according to the Labor Department, down from 218,000 in May. The unemployment rate fell to 4.0 percent from 4.3 percent the previous month. The slowdown in hiring occurred as wage growth moderated, with average hourly earnings increasing 3.9 percent year-over-year compared to 4.0 percent in May.
