Supreme Court rejects Verizon bid for $47 million refund of FCC fine
Monday, August 17, 2026
The Supreme Court declined to hear Verizon's appeal of a $47 million fine imposed by the Federal Communications Commission for selling customer location data without explicit consent. Verizon had sought to overturn the penalty, which the FCC issued in 2020. Verizon and other carriers have maintained that selling location data does not violate telecommunications law. The decision leaves the FCC's fine in place.
