Apple ordered to change app data consent prompts on iPhones and iPads
Monday, August 17, 2026
Apple modified its data consent prompt design following a ruling by Germany's Federal Cartel Office, which determined the company's App Tracking Transparency prompts favored Apple's own applications. The prompts, introduced with iOS 14.5, shifted user tracking across apps to an opt-in model. According to reports, the change cost social media apps approximately $10 billion when first implemented.
