Asian Refiners Ask to Pick Up Saudi Oil Outside Risky Red Sea
Monday, August 17, 2026
Some Asian refiners requested exemptions from Saudi Aramco's directive requiring them to collect crude oil at the port of Yanbu on the Red Sea, citing difficulty in securing vessels willing to transit the waterway. Saudi Aramco had instructed certain Asian buyers to pick up their allocations at Yanbu rather than other loading terminals. The refiners sought permission to receive shipments at alternative ports to avoid the shipping logistics challenges associated with the Red Sea route.
