Beef Prices Stay High as US Cattle Supply Shrinks
Sunday, August 16, 2026
Tyson Foods announced it is reducing beef-processing capacity as the US cattle herd approaches its lowest level in fifty years. The shrinking herd has increased livestock costs and contributed to losses in the beef division. Bloomberg reported that consumers are resisting higher prices, and a recovery in herd size could take years, though increased cattle imports from Mexico may provide some short-term relief.
