Fauci refuses Senate appearance after invoking Fifth Amendment more than 100 times in COVID probe
Saturday, August 15, 2026
Anthony Fauci's attorney declined a request from Senator Ron Johnson for Fauci to testify before the Senate, stating that a second appearance would constitute harassment. Fauci previously appeared before Johnson's committee investigating the origins of COVID-19, during which he invoked his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination more than 100 times. Johnson chairs the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations. Fauci served as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases from 1984 until his retirement in 2022.
