Diversified Said to Near Deal for Elliott-Backed Birch

Diversified Energy Co. is in advanced talks to acquire Birch Resources for more than $1.7 billion in cash, according to reporting. Elliott Investment Management is a backer of Birch Resources. The deal has not been finalized or announced by either company.
