Flock “can’t tech its way out” of the stalker cop problem, experts say

Thursday, August 13, 2026

Flock Safety announced a policy to prevent law enforcement officers from using its automated license plate reader system to track individuals without an official investigation, following reports that officers had used the technology to monitor ex-partners. The policy does not prevent agencies from concealing access records or disciplinary actions related to such misuse, according to reporting on the company's enforcement mechanisms. Flock Safety's system is used by thousands of police departments across the United States to identify vehicles by reading license plates.
