Dating app Bumble divides users by ditching its signature 'women-first' chat rule

Thursday, August 13, 2026

Bumble removed its requirement that women must initiate conversations within 24 hours, according to CEO Lily Reinhart. The company conducted a trial of the optional feature and reported positive user response. The change applies to heterosexual matches on the platform, which previously required women to message first or the connection would expire.
