ICE eyes $20M purchase of electric shock gloves as Hochul warns of legal consequences

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement issued a solicitation for electric shock gloves with a budget of $20 million, according to procurement documents. New York Governor Kathy Hochul and New York Attorney General Letitia James stated the purchase could trigger legal action under state law. James said on January 15, 2026, that New York would pursue legal remedies if ICE proceeded with the acquisition. ICE has not yet responded to requests for comment on the procurement or the warnings from New York officials.
