Zhu Rongji, who drove China's 1990s economic reforms, has died at 97

Zhu Rongji, who served as Premier of China from 1998 to 2003, died at age 97. During the 1990s, Zhu oversaw economic reforms including state enterprise restructuring, banking system changes, and China's 1998 financial crisis response. He also led preparations for China's entry into the World Trade Organization in 2001. Zhu previously served as Mayor of Shanghai from 1988 to 1991.
