Georgia teacher, father hailed as hero after dying to save girl from Myrtle Beach rip current

Derrick Moore, a Georgia teacher and father of four, entered the water at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, to assist a child caught in a rip current. Moore did not return from the water. The child was rescued by other beachgoers. Moore's body was recovered on July 17, 2025, according to local authorities.
