The funeral for PlayStation discs has begun

Sony announced it will stop manufacturing discs for new games starting January 2028. Cody Spencer, co-owner of Pink Gorilla Games, stated the decision removes the option for physical game purchases. The shift follows broader industry movement toward digital distribution. Sony did not announce a end date for supporting existing disc-based games or backwards compatibility with previously released titles.
