Tuesday, August 11, 2026
About a dozen oil tankers have transferred cargo to other vessels outside the Strait of Hormuz in recent weeks, according to shipping data reviewed by Bloomberg. The transfers allow tankers to avoid transiting through the strait, where several attacks on commercial vessels have occurred. Approximately 21 million barrels of oil per day pass through the Strait of Hormuz, making it one of the world's most critical shipping routes.
