A midwife crosses 'maternity deserts' to make a difference for Black moms and babies

A March of Dimes study found that more than half of U.S. counties lack labor and delivery hospitals. In Alabama, a Black midwife provides maternity care in areas without hospital obstetric services. The midwife's work addresses maternal health disparities affecting Black women and infants in regions with limited access to delivery facilities.
