Homeland Security Intensifies Pursuit of Noncitizens on Voter Rolls
Monday, August 10, 2026
The Department of Homeland Security has increased deportation proceedings against noncitizens who registered to vote through driver's license applications, according to immigration attorneys and court records. Individuals said they marked voter registration boxes on license forms without understanding the documents would enroll them to vote. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has identified thousands of these cases in states including California, Colorado, and Georgia, according to data from immigration advocacy groups. The enforcement actions have resulted in deportation charges for noncitizens, some of whom have lived in the United States for decades.
