White House rebukes CBS interview after host battles NIH director over loss of trust in public health

Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, director of the National Institutes of Health, discussed vaccine information and pandemic policies during a CBS interview. Bhattacharya attributed declining public trust in health institutions to school closures and mask mandates implemented during the Biden administration. The White House issued a statement responding to the interview. Bhattacharya was appointed NIH director in 2025.
